World Series Of Poker is a major poker tournament that is held annually in Las Vegas. Since its beginning in 1970, World Series of Poker is the most important festival of world poker. Main Event is a tournament with a rich history and over the years was a competition between PokerStars members and the members of Team PokerStars PokerStars Pro.
The first tournament had only seven participants and consisted of cash games in different variations of poker. The winner was approved by vote, with the legendary Johnny Moss became the first champion of all time. The format changed in 1971 in familiar freezeout tournament structure today, a decision that made the tournament more exciting.
Over the years the number of participants has increased prizes. Also added other events to a wider range of poker games. Attention, however, was always attracted to the Main Event. With a registration fee of $ 10,000 remains unchanged from the first day, the winner is given a huge cash prize and is crowned World Champion. There have been legends of the game, names like Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar and Johnny Chan.
By 2003, online poker PokerStars gain popularity and was about to change forever the World Series Of Poker. After winning a satellite location of $ 39, amateur player Chris Moneymaker won the Main Event, taking a prize of $ 2,500,000. The following year, PokerStars qualifier Greg Raymer also won the championship, taking a prize of $ 5,000,000. The result was massive, reaching a peak in 2006 when 8773 players entered the Main Event, generating a first prize of $ 12,000,000. With a huge number of participants in the 2008 World Series shows no sign of slowing down. Main Event in 2008 marked the first time the final table received break with the past nine returning players remaining after 117 days in November to play for the biggest prize in poker.
World Series of Poker 2009 has proved to be another fruitful year for players qualified through PokerStars and Team PokerStars Pro, when players came to Las Vegas to compete in the 57 events and to play for millions of dollars made the game. Hundreds of players qualified through PokerStars satellites joined the 6494 players who made up the presence of the Main Event, creating a total prize fund of $ 61,043,600. PokerStars qualified 113 players and took cash prizes totaling $ 7,091,985 so far.
World Series of Poker 2009 was a season that deserves to remain in our memory and still not finished! The last nine players will return to fight in November.
